How To Change Registered Owner /Organisation Information In Windows

You have recently brought a new computer (or laptop or netbook) and have noticed that in About Windows, it displays Windows registered to the company from whom you have brought it or some other random name. Now, if you’ve ever wondered how to change the owner name that Windows says it’s registered to, then this handy quick tip is only for you. Using this tip you can easily change the registered name and registered organization name to your own name.

Even though this tip may not come handy for everyone but will surely come handy for those users who wants to personalize their computer more, and showing that Windows registered to them is very much important for them!

To change the registration information, click on the Start button and type regedit.exe in the start menu search box and open it. If you get UAC prompt, click on Yes. Windows XP users, open the Run dialog box (Press Windows Key + R) and type regedit.exe. In the Registry Editor find the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion

Now find the RegisteredOwner and RegisteredOrganization keys in the right-hand-pane. Double-click on them to change their values to whatever values you want. After changing the information, exit the Registry Editor.

To see the new changes, just type winver.exe into the start menu search box (or in the Run dialog box) to see the About Windows box:

This tip works in all versions of Windows, including Windows 7 and Vista.
