Windows 7 Service Pack 1 will be Available Soon?

Microsoft is preparing to release Service Pack 1 of Windows 7. According to Tom Warren, WinRumors: Windows 7 Service Pack 1 release is imminent and Windows 7 Service Pack 1 download will be arriving very soon.

In his post, Tom Warren notes that a Patch Tuesday update (KB976902) that arrived this month, is a prerequisite necessary to successfully install and to remove any service packs to all versions of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. A speculation was already made about Microsoft releasing Windows 7 Service Pack 1 in January when it released a Service Pack blocker tool in November.

According to the knowledge base of the KB976902 Patch Tuesday update:

This software update will be a prerequisite to install service packs. Additionally, this update improves reliability when you install or remove Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 updates and service packs.

This is one of the proof that a big update is coming soon. The software giant typically releases Service Pack Blocker Tool Kits around two months before service packs are released. If Microsoft sticks to its earlier ways then Windows 7 SP1 should be released in January 2011. Microsoft, of course, only states that Windows 7 SP1 will arrive in the first half of 2011.

Warren also added that if Microsoft is planning to release SP1 in January then it will likely be January 18 or January 25 as Microsoft always releases Service Packs on a Tuesday.
